Mitt Romney disdains politicians who spend year after year in the public sector, where they’re insulated from the problem-solving challenges that arise in the business world. So whose endorsement is the Romney campaign trumpeting?

Pete Wilson served as the 36th governor of California (1991–1999), the culmination of more than three decades of public service that included eight years as a United States Senator (1983–1991), eleven years as Mayor of San Diego (1971–1982) and four years as a California State Assemblyman (1967–1971).

Michael McGough is the Los Angeles Times’ former senior editorial writer, based in Washington, D.C. He wrote editorials for The Times from 2006 to 2021. Before that, McGough worked for 30 years for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette as a reporter, editorial writer, editorial page editor and Washington correspondent.
