Most politicians seek to steer clear of constituent rivalries. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger today took the opposite approach at a La Jolla event honoring a donor’s $700 million in lifetime contributions to the Sanford-Burnham Institute for Medical Research.

‘It just shows you how different it is,’ Schwarzenegger said. ‘Here we are in the same state, but in San Diego when someone is putting up $700 million it goes to charity. I mean, you just go a little bit north, 100 miles in Hollywood, if someone puts up $700 million it’s for a divorce. It’s just, you know, so different. That’s what I like about California. Wherever you look it’s a little bit different.’
