One of the key differences between the candidates that has been highlighted tonight is who their supporters are.

Meg Whitman has twice accused Jerry Brown of being in the pockets of powerful public employee unions, which have spent millions aiding his campaign.

Brown retorted that that is “like the kettle calling the pot black,” saying Whitman is beholden to her wealthy campaign contributors.

Her tax cut plan, he said, would help her wealthy contributors most.
