Orange County official Tom Daly enters Assembly race

Tom Daly, Orange County’s elected clerk-recorder and a former Anaheim mayor, has officially entered the race for an area Assembly seat.

The 69th District Assembly seat is one of the few offices currently held by Democrats in GOP-heavy Orange County. However, Assemblyman Jose Solorio (D-Santa Ana) is barred by term limits from running again.

Solorio has endorsed Daly, also a Democrat, in a district where that party holds a 50%-28% registration edge over Republicans. About 18% of voters are not affilated with any party.

Also making the race are Santa Ana City Councilwoman Michele Martinez; Julio Perez, a senior policy analyst for United Food and Commercial Workers; and accountant and community activist Francisco Barragan. All three are Democrats.

Marine Corps veteran Robert Hammond is the only Republican in the race so far.
