‘Real World Sydney’: G’day roommate!

And we’re back to see what happens when people start getting real -- or at least as real as reality TV allows them to be.

The crew this time is in Sydney, in a ridiculously large home -- even by the standards of this show -- that includes a recording studio, several spa tubs, an aquarium and, in a tribute to the nature of Australia or something, a couple of stuffed tarantulas behind glass.

On to the cast!

There’s 23-year-old Cohutta, who builds log cabin houses in Blue Ridge, Ga., and has such a thick accent that you have to watch his lips when he talks.

Dunbar, 22, from Natchez, Miss., makes the winning choice in his audition video of explaining the difference between the Confederate flag and the Mississippi state flag.

Isaac, the former druggie of the group, is 21 and from Cleveland. He waves off his 15-house breaking-and-entering crime spree as, you know, a juvenile mistake.

KellyAnne of Austin, Texas, is 20 and centered her audition tape on her booty. Literally.

Parisa, 21, from New York, is a well-spoken, practicing Muslim whose parents immigrated from Iran. (Aaaand we have the recipe here for the disaster-causing housemate, in that the rest seem like a bunch of half-wits.)

Shauvon is a 24-year-old journalism student from Sacramento, and she writes the school newspaper’s sex column. She is very, very blond.

Trisha, 19, from Fresno, gained amusement value points by telling the story of her parents giving her a promise ring when she was 12 to remind her to stay a virgin until marriage -- and then promptly revealed on camera that she’s totally broken that promise.

And the winner of the first to get falling-down drunk is KellyAnne, who targets Dunbar in a hot tub, despite his repeated reminders that he has Julie, a hometown honey. Yeah, we’ll see how long that lasts, with Dunbar already choking out explanations to the camera that he told his girlfriend he’d be ‘as good as he could.’ Haven’t you watched this show before, Dunbar? The flirting sets up a divide between the women, with Parisa and Shauvon -- notably, the older girls -- snarling at the antics of KellyAnne and Trisha. The boys, for their part, try to stay out of it. Hey, maybe they have watched this show before.
