Screenwriter Robert Orci won’t be making the meeting tonight -- he’s got scripts to finish.

“The last two weeks I have been up until 4 in the morning every night trying to finish the three things that require our writing services [Orci’s and his writing partner Alex Kurtzman], so that’s been interesting,’ said Orci (“Transformers,” “Mission: Impossible III” and “The Legend of Zorro”). ‘On the other hand, it feels like finals week senior year of college. We’d love it to be perfect and we’re trying to make it perfect, but you also gotta be Zen about it and go, ‘Hey, it’s a deadline nobody expected, and it’s gonna be what it’s gonna be.’”

The joke around their shop has been: ‘We have to finish our picket sign today because we can’t write it tomorrow.’

“If I am called to picket with my brothers and sisters, I guess I have to,” he said.

(It’s worth pointing out that Orci’s partner Kurtzman is married to the daughter of the attorney representing the producers’ guild in these thorny negotiations. Imagine those dinner conversations.)
