‘Real Housewives of Orange County’: Where’s the drama?

Dear Bravo,

Are these two-part reunion shows really necessary? Don’t get me wrong. I’d gladly watch an hour of Lynne’s shackled wrists over anything else on TV, but that doesn’t mean it’s good for me. Still, I tuned in anyway. And each time I fast-forwarded through commercials, wondering when is this supposed to get good. Pause. Pause. Jim is on? Drama! Oh, wait, it’s just a preview of Part II. Of. Course.

Instead I was left watching the possibility of drama. Most of good stuff from Part I came from the packaged footage from the season. It was like taking a trip down memory lane. Aw, the limo ride when Tamra told Simon what she really thought of him. Oh, and Alexa using a colorful term of endearment toward her mom. Wait. There’s footage of Tamra receiving her divorce papers? That was awkward.

Sure there were glimmers of hope. Here were my highlights:

-- Gretchen learning the meaning of karma. Psychology majors can’t know everything, right?

-- Lynne trying to justify getting plastic surgery in the midst of her financial situation, calling it a business decision. Right. Because the people who are buying her cuffs are doing so because she no longer has excess skin under her neck. I mean, I know that’s why I’m going to buy one.

-- Lynne saying she think she looks like a wrestler on TV.

-- Alexis and her conversations with God about the show. So glad to hear the big guy approves of this season! Now I don’t have to go to confession every time I watch.

-- Alexis revealing that her pastor and his wife fasted in honor of her and Jim’s appearance on the show. Um, wow.

-- Any cutaway to Vicki’s reactions to all of the above.

But it wasn’t enough. Even Alexis seemed bored, taking more interest in making sure she was sitting up straight and sticking her chest out.

So, Bravo, please, when it comes time to reunite ‘The Real Housewives of New York City,’ consider making one really awesome reunion show, not two average ones.
