Looks like ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ may be back, but without Joss Whedon

Ever since ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ finished its run, there has been chatter about finding a way to continue the story — whether as a comic book or as a film. Now it looks like a ‘Buffy’ movie reboot is moving forward, but without series creator Joss Whedon, whose energy is focused on directing ‘The Avengers.’
Sunnydale without Whedon seems fairly unimaginable, but a brave 29-year-old named Whit Anderson has signed on to write the script for a Warner Bros. feature. Producer Charles Roven of Atlas Entertainment told our sister blog Hero Complex, “Generally, I wouldn’t have said, ‘Let’s revive this,’ but Whit’s take is pretty compelling and a lot of fun, and it’s interesting to see all of this reimagined. This is a completely new reboot.’
Can a first-time screenwriter do justice to the ‘Buffy’ legacy? And assuming the movie gets off the ground, will obsessive fans (you know who you are) accept a wholesale reboot?
