Kim Kardashian has filed for divorce from brief hubby Kris Humphries. Divorce pool participants, collect your prize now: That was 72 days.

Reports began swirling early this morning — with confirmation coming from Kardashian perpetuator Ryan Seacrest via Twitter: ‘Yes @kimkardashian is filing for divorce this morning. I touched base with her, getting a statement in just a few mins.’ It’s the second divorce for Kardashian.

Guess the wedding trope, especially an uber expensive one, doesn’t work in reality TV either? The ratings would disagree, of course. The reality starlet’s Aug. 20 nuptials aired as a wedding special, ‘Kim’s Fairytale Wedding,’ on E! network and scored big ratings, with an average of 4 million total viewers for the two-day TV extravaganza. And it has continued to air on repeats on the station since (believe me, I was watching it this weekend. Again).

Now there’s ‘Kourtney and Kim Take New York’ to contend with. Commercials promoting the ‘Keeping Up With the Kardashians’ spinoff, which is scheduled to premiere Nov. 27 and follows the sisters as they set out to open a Dash boutique in New York City, made the rounds not long after the big wedding, with Kim and her basketball player hubby exiting a helicopter trying extra hard to look extra cool. It seemed like a trial run that would lead to the couple’s own show, a la Khloe and Lamar. But now the network has lost a half-hour of programming possibilities!

The network released this statement: ‘All of us at E! are surprised and saddened by this news, and we send our support to Kim and Kris at this difficult time. The Kardashians have always been uniquely open with all aspects of their lives from joyous events to intimate moments to heartbreaking transitions. E! will continue to share the fascinating real lives and larger-than-life existence of this close-knit family.’

Inquiries to E! about how the divorce would be addressed were not immediately returned. But perhaps the network will think twice before hyping her next marriage.

Kardashian said in a statement to E!, which airs her reality shows:’I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision. I had hoped this marriage was forever, but sometimes things don’t work out as planned. We remain friends and wish each other the best.’
