ARLINGTON -- Reliever Scot Shields caused a stir in the Angel clubhouse when he showed up Friday afternoon decked out in a Western shirt, new blue jeans, cowboy boots, a belt with a platter-sized buckle and a white cowboy hat.

It was unclear whether Shields, who is from South Florida, was adopting Texas culture or simply mocking teammates Mark Teixeira, Torii Hunter and John Lackey, all of whom live in the Dallas area.

But apparently Lackey didn’t get the joke because as teammates surrounded Shields, taking photos with the cellphones, Lackey was called out of a nearby room to give his opinion.

‘You look great!’ Lackey said.
