The most popular addition to the Kings’ locker room at Toyota Sports Center is a ping-pong table. Players barely have time to kick off their skates before they’re hammering backhands at each other. They even keep track of their wins and losses on a mounted scoreboard.

I asked Dustin Brown who the best players are. He said Anze Kopitar and Derek Armstrong. Does Kopi have to be the best at everything?!?

The table has already got me into a little hot water, however. I chased down a wayward ping-pong ball Thursday, thinking I’d save one of the players the possibility of throwing out his back, and stepped on the gigantic Kings logo that’s in the middle of the locker room, a big-time no-no around here.

Half the room let out a groan just as my right foot landed on the logo. They don’t miss anything around here, I thought.

I wonder if their defense will be this alert.
