The Angels spent most of September talking about the importance of home-field advantage in the postseason, then they went out and squandered it in their first game.

After losing to the Boston Red Sox in Game 1 of the American League Division Series on Wednesday, the Angels must win three of their next four games, half of which will be played in Boston.

‘I think it’s very important any time you can come out and get a win in somebody else’s ballpark,’ said Jon Lester, who gave up just an unearned run in seven innings. ‘It’s a huge win and momentum for us and a confidence boost. I think we can go now into Game 2 a little more relaxed and comfortable.’

Infielder Alex Cora agreed, but added a warning.

‘Obviously it’s a big one,’ he said. ‘But we’re only up 1-0.’
