As someone who panics easily at predictions of traffic disaster, I left home in Tustin at 2:15 this afternoon for the 7:15 p.m. UCLA-Washington State game at the Rose Bowl. It took me 50 minutes and the only traffic issues were on Interstate 5 in Orange County. According to my traffic GPS, the 5, the 110, the 134, the 210, all the best ways from Orange County to Pasadena, were all good.

And as someone who has a CD car changer that holds six CDs, five of which are Neil Diamond, I’ll proudly admit that given my choice of attending one of the four major events that are supposed to be responsible for the traffic jams -- USC vs. Oregon; Dodger vs. Cubs; UCLA vs. Washington State; and Neil Diamond on his own -- I really, really would have picked Neil Diamond.

That way I could be singing with the crowd to ‘Sweet Caroline’ and ‘Coming to America’ and not noticing when the Dodgers eliminate the Cubs.
