Today is the day for which DVRs were invented.

If you’re an L.A. sports fan, you are headed for a serious traffic jam this evening. And I’m not talking about the 101 or 110 freeways, although they don’t figure to be a joy ride, either.

I’m talking about the tube where you’ve got USC vs. Oregon at 5 on Channel 7, the Dodgers-Cubs playoff game at 7 on TBS and UCLA vs. Washington State on FSN Prime Ticket at 7:15.

Obviously you’ll start with the USC game, but unless its a blowout, just when things get serious, here come the other two games.

You could watch all three, if you have enough TVs, and want to run back and forth between them, but then you’re sure to miss something.

You could concentrate on one and record the other two.

You could watch two of them (if you have screen-within-the-screen capability) and record the other one.

Or you could go out for the evening and record all three, depending on a computer or mobile device for updates.

Technology is not the problem. Time is. Unless you are planning on staying up all night to catch up, you’ll run smack into Sunday, meaning another Dodgers game, if they don’t win tonight, another Angels-Red Sox game and, oh yeah, the whole NFL schedule.

It’s hard work being a sports fan, especially this time of the year when every weekend is like the Olympics.

Good thing they didn’t schedule a presidential debate for this weekend. Who’s got time for real life?
