Is it possible Jeff Gordon could go a year without a win?

Very much so, unless the four-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion wins this Saturday night at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, where his last victory came one year ago.

The one-time ‘Wonder Boy’ of stock-car racing, now 37 and graying at the temples, scored six wins last season -- for a career total of 81, sixth best in history -- and he finished a close second to teammate Jimmie Johnson for the Cup title.

But Gordon has struggled to run near the front this year. And although the California native made the Chase for the Cup playoff again, he’s eighth in points and has little chance of winning the championship.

Still, he’ll get another chance to end his winless streak Saturday on the 1.5-mile Lowe’s oval near Charlotte, N.C., the only night race in the 10-race Chase.
