By Sunday night, the Galaxy’s season might effectively be over.

That’s how close Coach Bruce Arena’s team is to the brink.

If Dallas defeats Toronto in Texas on Saturday, and the Galaxy ties or loses to the Colorado Rapids in Carson on Sunday, it’s lights out and a third consecutive season without a playoff appearance.

The last time Los Angeles took part in a playoff game was on Nov. 13, 2005, when it defeated the New England Revolution, 1-0 in overtime, to win the MLS Cup.

Of the players on the field for the Galaxy that afternoon, only Landon Donovan, Peter Vagenas and Alan Gordon are still on the roster.

Change is not always a good thing.

Somewhere, Sigi Schmid, Steve Sampson and Frank Yallop -- Galaxy coaches who were shown the door by interfering owner AEG -- all are smiling.
