It seems like virtually every day, an item on another athlete or figure from the world of sports being nabbed for drunk driving moves across the wires.

Now here’s a little twist on that regular staple of the sports landscape: Last week, an employee at Kingsville Arena in Canada was arrested and charged for drunk driving ... a Zamboni.

According to a report in the Windsor Star, an off-duty police officer was notified the Zamboni driver smoothing the ice was swerving, banging into the boards and had fallen asleep at the wheel. The woman driving the Zamboni finally managed to get the machine off the ice and was arrested with, the paper said, ‘a mickey of vodka’ in her front pocket.

No one was hurt.

Of course, there’s a difference between driving erratically and turning the Zamboni into a fire-breathing, heart-stopping muscle machine on ice. Brace yourself, here’s a video clip of a fearless Zamboni driver doing of doughnuts at the rink. NASCAR drivers, eat your heart out.
