What do you make of today’s offer from the Dodgers to Manny Ramirez?

Our baseball writers are still reporting the story, but it appears to be basically what already has been speculated -- big money for two years. The difference today is that Dodgers GM Ned Colletti was quoted on the record about an actual offer, though he didn’t give many details.

It could be that this is merely a starting point for negotiations that will continue into next month.

But at least no one will be able to say that the Dodgers let Ramirez test the market without making an offer.

Unless the Dodgers offer more years, it’s virtually a certainty that Ramirez and his agent, Scott Boras, will opt to test the market. The New York Yankees, though, might have more interest in the Angels’ Mark Teixeira, another Boras client.
