LAObserved reports that Olympic wrestling champion Henry Cejudo, who was raised in South Los Angeles, is writing an autobiography.

It’s a compelling story. Times sports columnist Bill Plaschke was in the Tribune Olympic sports office in Beijing when he heard about Cejudo’s astonishing ascent to the gold-medal final and rushed over with another Times reporter, Kevin Baxter, to report on it.

Plaschke quickly blogged about the match when it was finished, declaring it and other inspiring stories like it as the reason they hold the Olympics.

Plaschke then wrote a column for the next morning’s sports section about the young man who sold tamales on the street to pay for his wrestling.

I look forward to reading Cejudo’s book. It’s the reason they write books.
