Anaheim’s Honda Center has become a new home to Russia’s Fedor Emelianenko, the heavyweight considered by many to be the world’s most gifted mixed martial arts fighter.
In a July appearance at the Honda Center, Emelianenko (29-1 with 16 submissions and six knockouts) dismissed former Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight champ Tim Sylvia in 36 seconds.
He now is scheduled to fight Jan. 24 against another ex-UFC champion, Andrei Arlovski (14-5 with eight KOs and three submissions). Tickets go on sale Wednesday.
Emelianenko, who has also twice defeated current interim UFC heavyweight champ Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, is fighting for Seal Beach-based Affliction clothing, which will promote its 11-fight ‘Day of Reckoning’ event with Donald Trump and Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions.
De La Hoya and his partner Richard Schaefer say they anticipate ultimately scheduling a show that will include both boxing and MMA fights.
