Kings defenseman Jack Johnson, out since having surgery on his shoulder five weeks ago, skated with the team today for the first time.

He went through light-contact 3-on-3 drills after the morning skate.

‘The trainers felt like I was ready to go out and do this,’ Johnson said. ‘I have progressed to where they thought this was possible.’

He still thinks he will be back playing right after the All-Star break and already is ahead of schedule.

‘There’s no reason to hurry,’ Johnson said. ‘The safe and smart thing to do is to take my time and make sure I’m healthy.’
