First things first: Manny Ramirez will end up back with the Dodgers? (OK, the picture is of Alexander Ovechkin, but that comes later). In the daylong poll I put up in yesterday’s ‘Wake-up Call,’ 53% of those of you who voted (49 votes) said they think that is exactly the case. This may be voting with your heart, you know that right? The Yankees collected 23% or 21 votes. This may be voting with your head because you know the Steinbrenner boys (Hal, in fact, was ceded control of the team today) will do anything to make dad’s team a winner again, when all they really need to do is jettison the bad karma that is known as A-Rod (and maybe get another elite pitcher). Coming in third is the Angels -- why, wouldn’t that be a kick? -- with 14% or 13 votes. For the full tally, click here and scroll down to the poll. I wonder what Manny would say to this?

The real first things first: Did you see Alexander Ovechkin? Told you so, eh? But did you see Bobby Ryan? The Ducks winger tied a rookie club record with two goals. We buried the Ducks-Capitals game story by Chris Foster on page 5 of Sports, but what a treat it was watching Ovechkin, and watching the Ducks try to come back (Caps won 6-4). The online headline for the story says it all: Ducks can’t handle Alexander Ovechkin. The reigning league MVP (65 goals last season and 112 points) ended up with one goal and three assists and was all over the ice. The Caps are at Staples tonight to take on the Kings. By the way, some of you chided me for not mentioning the Caps’ other Alexander, Alexander Semin. But I didn’t because I knew he was hurt and we likely wouldn’t get a chance to see him play.

Add Ducks-Caps: Since I gave you a video look at Ovechkin in Tuesday’s Wake-up Call, here is a look at Ryan during last night’s game scoring one of his two goals. He also had an assist in the game.

Fab 5: Sounds like a contest for this blog doesn’t it? But it really refers to the UCLA Bruins’ five freshmen: J’Mison Morgan, Jrue Holiday, Drew Gordon, Malcolm Lee and Jerime Anderson. David Wharton takes a look at the work ahead for the Bruins and Coach Ben Howland. They take on Michigan in New York, where the 2K Sports Classic is being held. ‘We’ve got three seniors so we just need to play our roles,’ Lee told David. ‘Come in and be like the Energizer Bunny and get the game going.’ David is in New York to report on the game. Go to latimes.com tonight for a full report.

Clippers win: And that is no joke. The Times’ beat reporter Lisa Dillman was in Oklahoma City for the 108-88 victory. She also has (Bruins fans, please note this) an article on how Thunder rookie Russell Westbrook is doing. Westbrook, a first-round draft pick, has had highs and lows.
