So much for the honeymoon. Ex-Clipper Corey Maggette, who signed a five-year, $50-million deal with Golden State last summer, reportedly is being offered for trade by the Warriors.

The Warriors are off to a miserable 7-17 start. They are 3-13 with Maggette in the lineup and 4-4 without him. Maggette has missed eight games, including the last four because of a small tear in his hamstring.

When the Warriors lost Baron Davis to the Clippers in the free-agent derby last summer, they seemingly panicked and signed Maggette.

During his eight seasons with the Clippers, Maggette, now 30, was a put-his-head-down-and-drive-to-the-hoop-and-never-pass forward who could score, but was delusional about his outside shooting skills, and couldn’t defend. Last month in a Warriors loss to the Celtics, Kevin Garnett reportedly trash-talked at Maggette for concentrating on getting his stats and not winning.

And so far, Maggette’s numbers this season aren’t very impressive. He is averaging 19.1 points a game but shooting only 41.3% from the field (versus 44.9% for his career) and is an abysmal nine for 50 from beyond the three-point arc, or 18% (versus 32.3% career). He’s averaging 1.8 assists per game, below his 2.2 career average.

Maggette told the San Francisco Chronicle: ‘If I’ve got to sacrifice not driving, or not shooting too much, that’s fine with me. That’s the type of player I am.’

Warriors Coach Don Nelson wants Maggette to play more of an up-tempo game and to pass the ball. ‘It’ll be quite a test for him, because he’s going to have to move the ball more, try to do a lot of the other little things as opposed to trying to do the big things,’ Nelson said.
