Reliever Scot Shields was the only Angels player on the U.S. team that participated in the inaugural World Baseball Classic back in 2006. It now appears that ace John Lackey will be the lone Angels representative on the U.S. team that will play in the second WBC that is scheduled for March 5-23.

Lackey, the only Angels player to be invited to play for the U.S. team thus far, has accepted. After spending the first two weeks of spring training with the Angels in Tempe, Ariz., the right-hander will report to the U.S. team’s WBC camp at Clearwater, Fla., on March 2. The team is scheduled to play its first game on March 7 against Canada in Toronto.

Lackey, a Texas native, went 12-5 with a 3.75 ERA in 24 games with the Angels this past season.
