It’s been official for a few hours now: DeWayne Walker is the new head football coach at New Mexico State.

Walker, the defensive coordinator for UCLA for the last three seasons, will be introduced in Las Cruces, N.M., tomorrow morning. He has his work cut out for him given that New Mexico State has enjoyed only four winning seasons since 1967.

As for the UCLA Bruins, Coach Rick Neuheisel said in a statement released by the school that he hoped to fill Walker’s vacated post soon.

‘Because I felt there was an excellent chance DeWayne would get a head coaching opportunity, I have a list of candidates for the position,’ he said. ‘Nothing will occur until the staff reconvenes on Sunday and we discuss the candidates together.’
