After getting criticIzed by Lakers Coach Phil Jackson for his poor rebounding Friday night against Orlando’s Dwight Howard, Lakers center Andrew Bynum was relieved to know that his coach had backed off a bit.

Bynum had only three rebounds against the Magic, while Howard had 20, including eight on offense.

In his last five games, Bynum has had five, six, one, three and three rebounds.

He also is bothered by it.

‘I have to be more active, I guess,’’ Bynum said. ‘I’m just not in position to get them.’’

The low-key Bynum also talked about his need to play better on the pick-and-and roll, which should allow him to get in better position to board.

‘In the screen-and-roll game, it’s tough because you’ve got to stop the ball,’’ Bynum said. ‘Once you stop the ball, trying to get back in front of your guy is a mission. And when it’s Dwight, it’s a different kind of mission.’’

Bynum will get his chance to work on his rebounding during tonight’s game against the Cleveland Cavaliers at the Staples Center. Cavs center Zydrunas Ilgauskas is out with an injury. The 6-11 Anderson Varejao will start at center for the Cavs.
