Professional golfers have plenty of incentive to try to make it to the PGA Tour, where the exposure leads to myriad business opportunities and purses are big enough so No. 100 on the money list can make more than $1 million. But it’s also where the great perks are.

The Northern Trust Open just announced that it has entered into a two-year agreement with Mercedes-Benz to be the official car sponsor of the tournament at Riviera Country Club, to be held Feb. 19-22.

Unlike during the recent Bob Hope Chrysler Classic, where financially strapped Chrysler adopted a sometimes almost invisible profile, Mercedes will strut its stuff in Pacific Palisades. There will be a new vehicle at the 14th hole as a prize for a hole in one, though it’s doubtful that many of the guys out there need another new luxury car.

The perk: Every player in the field will also have use of a Mercedes courtesy car throughout the week. Of course, each player will be on his own to try to figure out how to negotiate the strangulating traffic on Sunset after his round.
