MELBOURNE, Australia -- As the Australian Open progresses, heat adaptibility may become more important than forehands, backhands and serves. The friendly weather forecaster on Channel 7 just described the next three days as ‘sizzling,’ ‘stifling,’ and, not running out of descriptive ‘s’ words, ‘scorching.’

Shoot.

Not a big fan of hot, hot, hot weather here so it figures a so-called ‘100-year’ heat wave has arrived. The predictions are highs of 41, 41 and 41 Celsius. I’m just not doing the conversion to Fahrenheit. Forty-one doesn’t sound so bad, does it?
