The Ducks launched a major initiative Monday at Corona Inline, one of three rinks the club now owns and operates.

The initiative, called THE RINKS, is designed to introduce kids to hockey and get them involved in the game at all levels. The program includes an inline facility in Huntington Beach and at Anaheim Ice, where the Ducks usually practice.

Teemu Selanne, Chris Pronger, Rob Niedermayer and Bobby Ryan of the Ducks coached the ceremonial first game in Corona, guiding a group of players 8 years old and younger. The ‘Teemunators,’ coached by Selanne and Ryan, defeated ‘Pronger’s Pride,’ coached by Pronger and Niedermayer, 4-2.

Maybe that’s the secret to the Ducks’ struggles this season: they think they’re playing roller hockey.

The three rinks in the program are registering youth and adult players for their hockey programs. More information is available at www.the-rinks.com.
