The Ducks and Kings both made moves as the NHL trade deadline approached.

And when it was all done, the Kings had shipped center Patrick O’Sullivan to the Carolina Hurricanes in return for winger Justin Williams. Then the Hurricanes quickly shipped O’Sullivan to the Edmonton Oilers.

The Ducks, meanwhile, traded Samuel Pahlsson (to the Chicago Blackhawks), Travis Moen (San Jose Sharks), Kent Huskins (Sharks) and Steve Montador (Boston Bruins).

General Manager Bob Murray made clear that he wants the Ducks to get younger. And although Pahlsson and Moen played critical roles in the 2007 Cup championship, both were potential unrestricted free agents.

In addition, the Kings re-signed defenseman Sean O’Donnell and goalie Erik Ersberg.

Stay tuned to latimes.com/sports for the details of these trades and all the trades made today throughout the league. LAT columnist Helene Elliott will be weighing in later today on the moves by the Kings and Ducks.
