Minutes after the Lakers used the 42nd pick to draft guard Patrick Beverley, General Manager Mitch Kupchak addressed the media on the team’s second-round selection.

Beverley played two seasons at Arkansas before joining BC Dnipro of the Ukrainian UBL. He scored 16.7 points in 46 games in his only pro season.

Beverley, who left after his sophomore year, was the SEC’s freshman of the year.

[UPDATE] 8:55 p.m.: Beverley is dealt to the Miami Heat for a future second-round pick and cash.

[UPDATE] 9 p.m.: Lakers drafted Chinemelu Elonu with the 59th pick. He does not appear on the 2009 NBA Draft media guide.
