The proposed renovation of Pauley Pavilion has taken another step forward with the University of California Board of Regents unanimously approving the project design plan, financing plan and environmental impact study.

Working with NBBJ Architects, UCLA hopes to bid the project later this year and break ground in early 2010.

Meanwhile, a campus publication reported that Chancellor Gene Block has faced concerns from employees who wonder why the university isn’t focusing its efforts on raising funds for salaries in difficult economic times.

According to UCLA Today, school officials think it is difficult to attract donations for general operating costs.

‘Some members in the UCLA community have suggested that the project be deferred, given the university’s budget crisis,’ Block reportedly told the regents this week. ‘It’s critical to note that none of the funds proposed for Pauley can be used to mitigate the impact of the state budget crisis and cuts on campus.’
