PHOENIX - The Dodgers said pitcher Hiroki Kuroda was released from the hospital today after he was struck in the head by a line drive in Saturday night’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Kuroda, 34, was expected to rejoin the team today and was cleared to fly home with them after the Dodgers conclude their series with the Diamondbacks at Chase Field, the Dodgers said.

The frightening incident occurred in the sixth inning when Arizona’s Rusty Ryal lined a ball that struck Kuroda just above his right ear. After being treated on the pitcher’s mound for several minutes, he was rushed to a Phoenix hospital but a CT head scan later came back negative.

Kuroda nonetheless was kept overnight for observation.
