New debate for NFL fans: Who is the best holder?

The latest argument making the rounds -- Who is the best placekick holder in the NFL? -- can’t be settled by the one thing sports purists love to recite most: statistics. The Associated Press article is worth reading just to hear the holders talk smack.

Although the accuracy of kickers is obviously related to how well the snapper and holder do their jobs, nobody is going to be able to come up with a definitive measure of whether a holder saved a bad snap or tilted the ball just right so the kicker gets the maximum flight.

We’ll have to presume all the holders in the NFL are very accomplished and talented. You muff a couple of snaps and you’re not going to hold on to the job for very long.
