On a day when starting receiver Ronald Johnson suffered a broken collarbone, freshman quarterback Matt Barkley passed for a touchdown and ran for another, but also had a pass intercepted in USC’s mock game today at the Coliseum.

Barkley, who was named the starter on Thursday, worked against the scout-team defense and completed 10 of 17 passes for 159 yards, including a four-yard touchdown to tight end Blake Ayles. Barkley also scored on a quarterback sneak.

Third-year sophomore Aaron Corp was five of seven for 89 yards and led a scoring drive that culminated with Marc Tyler’s short touchdown run. Corp, who is coming back from a cracked fibula, also had a 12-yard scramble.

Johnson, a junior, is expected to be sidelined six to eight weeks, Coach Pete Carroll said. Junior David Ausberry will start in Johnson’s place.
