UCLA lost one of its starting cornerbacks when Aaron Hester (pictured at left) cracked a fibula.

The injury occurred in the second quarter against San Diego State on Saturday and hits the Bruins at one of their thinnest positions. UCLA has senior Alterraun Verner, one of the nation’s top coverage defensive backs, but has little depth.

Andrew Abbott, a walk-on who was burned for a 78-yard touchdown pass by the Aztecs’ Vincent Brown in the first quarter, and sophomore Courtney Viney are UCLA’s backup cornerbacks.
