For better or worse (mostly worse), Kings defenseman Drew Doughty was involved in all the goals in the third period against Phoenix in what eventually led to a 6-3 season-opening loss.

A Doughty clear was intercepted by Phoenix right winger Scottie Upshall and resulted in a goal for a 4-2 lead at :37. At 8:25, Doughty committed a turnover in the defensive zone and center Robert Lang scored for the 5-2 advantage. The Kings scored their third power-play goal at 11:56 when Doughty took a pass from Anze Kopitar to make it 6-3.
