Dungey wins AMA Supercross race in Phoenix, Stewart crashes in heat race

Rookie Ryan Dungey won the first race of his AMA Supercross career and took over the lead in the Supercross standings at Chase Field in Phoenix.

James Stewart, the reigning AMA Supercross champion, crashed in his heat race and again in the Supercross main event, scrambling for a 15th-place finish.

Dungey leads the Supercross standings by nine points over Ryan Villopoto after two races. Stewart, the winner of the AMA Supercross season opener at Angel Stadium in Anaheim last week, is seventh in the Supercross standings.
