Jarret Stoll rifled a wrist shot past Marty Turco in the sixth round of the shootout Friday, the only shooter to succeed in the tiebreaking procedure, to give the Kings a 2-1 victory over the Stars at the American Airlines Center.

Jonathan Bernier, called up from Manchester of the American Hockey League after Jonathan Quick returned to Los Angeles for the birth of his first child, stopped 28 shots over the first 65 minutes in his first NHL start since Oct. 14, 2007. He was superb in the shootout, including a spectacular pad save against Jamie Benn in the sixth round.

Fredrik Modin scored for the Kings late in the first period, during a power play, and Dallas matched that at 6:29 of the third on a wrist shot by Brenden Morrow.

The game seemed to be played in slow motion, certainly suffering in comparison to the Kings’ energetic, up-tempo performance Wednesday in a 3-2 overtime loss at Chicago. The Stars on Friday were very cautious and the Kings generally seemed content to play along and be patient.

The Kings return home to face Nashville at noon Sunday at Staples Center.
