Pitcher Joel Pineiro gave up four runs and seven hits, including Kevin Millar’s run-scoring double in the first inning and two-run homer in the third, in the Angels’ 8-7 exhibition loss to the Chicago Cubs in Tempe Diablo Stadium on Sunday.

The Angels also lost reserve outfielder Reggie Willits to a strained right hamstring, an injury he appeared to suffer when he broke from the batter’s box to run out his second-inning single.

‘It doesn’t look like a full-blown pull, but hamstrings can be tricky,’ Manager Mike Scioscia said. ‘We’ll evaluate him day to day. It shouldn’t sideline him for too long.’

The Angels sent 11 men to the plate in a six-run second inning that featured Kendry Morales’ leadoff homer to right field, Howie Kendrick’s two-run triple to right-center and Hideki Matsui’s RBI single to right. Catcher Mike Napoli, who leads the Cactus League with four home runs, drew three walks.
