Florida International University’s Kendall Berry stabbed to death

Running back Kendall Berry, 22, was stabbed to death on Thursday at 9 p.m. on Florida International University’s Miami campus.

Miami-Dade police told reporters that the junior was involved in an argument with one or possibly more people outside the school’s recreation center before the incident occurred.

FIU president Mark B. Rosenberg said in a video message Friday that officials ‘will not rest’ until Berry’s attacker is found.

‘Last night, we lost a well-liked student who was a tireless worker in the classroom and on the ball field,’ Rosenberg said. ‘Like so many of our students, Kendall Berry had positive energy and a bright future.’

Berry, from Haines City, Fla., had a team-best seven touchdowns last season, even though an injury prevented him from participating in the season’s first seven games.

‘When you put the football in his hands, that kid can do some unbelievable things,’ FIU football coach Mario Cristobal said late last season.

Berry had seven brothers and sisters, and his mother described him as a ‘negotiator’ not a ‘fighter.’

Players on the FIU football team are receiving counseling and spring football practices have been postponed.
