Angels: Haren leaves game with right forearm bruise after being hit by a line drive

Dan Haren‘s first night as a member of the Angels lasted just 4 2/3 innings.

The Boston Red Sox beat up the former Arizona ace that the Angels acquired Sunday, quite literally in the fifth, actually, when Sox first baseman Kevin Youkilis hit a line drive that nailed Haren in the right elbow.

Haren didn’t seem to be seriously injured, but Angels coaches pulled him after that with the Sox up, 2-1.

[Update 8:57 p.m.: Haren left the game with a bruised right forearm, team officials said. He was examined by Dr. Craig Milhouse, the team physician, and he will be re-examined Tuesday by Angels orthopedist Dr. Lewis Yocum. The Angels said Haren would not have X-rays on Monday night.]

Overall, Haren gave up two earned runs, seven hits, and struck out eight. He threw 62 pitches, 46 of which were strikes. He also gave up a home run to Sox slugger David Ortiz in the third inning that curled into the right field corner.
