The Blackhawks scored the only goal of the second period, at 1:18 of the session. Chicago controlled the puck at the point, where Duncan Keith blasted it on net. The rebound sat in front, where Viktor Stalberg backhanded it past Jonathan Bernier.

The Kings did kill two penalties, the first called on Ryan Smyth at 4:49 and made more dangerous when Bernier lost his stick during a jam in front of the net. He tried to pick it up but grabbed the blade and had to drop it again before he had a chance to pick it up properly. The Blackhawks had three shots during that advantage.

But 45 seconds after killing that penalty the Kings had to kill another one, called on Matt Greene for slashing. They got through that unscathed.

Late in the period the line of Brad Richardson, Anze Kopitar and Dustin Brown had an excellent shift that pinned the Blackhawks in their own end but the line wasn’t able to score.
