Dodgers, Kuroda reach agreement

The Dodgers are bringing back another member of their rotation after coming to terms with right-hander Hiroki Kuroda. Details of the agreement were not made public but it is believed to a be a one-year deal worth $12 million.

Kuroda, who will be 36 next season, passed a physical Monday.

Kuroda, who was 11-13 with a 3.39 earned-run average in 2010, became a free agent after three seasons rather than six because of a clause in his contract. He is 28-30 with a 3.60 ERA since signing a three-year, $35.3-million contract before the 2008 season.

Last month the Dodgers and left-hander Ted Lilly signed a three-year, $33-million contract. Also expected back in the Dodgers rotation next season will be right-hander Chad Billingsley and lefty Clayton Kershaw, leaving General Manager Ned Colletti short just one starter. That spot is likely to be filled by an in-house candidate from a pool that includes young right-handers Carlos Monasterios and John Ely, among others.
