Kings practice report: Scott Parse to have surgery, Brayden Schenn could be heading to AHL

Kings forward Scott Parse will undergo hip labrum surgery and is expected to miss three to four months, the Kings announced Tuesday.

The Kings also placed Alexei Ponikarovsky on the injured reserve list, prompting the team to recall former fourth-round draft pick Dwight King from Manchester of the American Hockey League.

Parse, who missed the first 11 games of the season because of the injury, struggled during the Kings’ 6-3 loss to San Jose on Monday despite scoring his first goal of the season.

The team also initially announced that it assigned rookie center Brayden Schenn to Manchester for conditioning purposes. However, senior director of communications Jeff Moller said that the Schenn move was not official and that the team was ‘discussing issues with the league related to the completion of the assignment.’ Schenn did not practice with the team Tuesday.

In addition to becoming the first player in team history to share the Kings’ name, the 6-foot-3, 227-pound King is also the first Kings player to have played with the team’s ECHL affiliate, the Ontario Reign. King played 20 games and scored four goals with the Reign last season.
