The Ducks traded veteran defenseman Paul Mara to the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday night in exchange for a fifth-round selection in the 2012 NHL entry draft.

Mara had two points in 33 games with the Ducks this season, his lone goal coming with 1.7 seconds left in regulation during a 5-4 victory over Nashville on Nov. 7. He also appeared in his 700th career NHL game on Nov. 14 at Chicago.

The 6-4, 211-pound Mara played with the Canadiens last season before signing a one-year, $750,000 deal with the Ducks in September.

Mara has been a healthy scratch in 24 of the Ducks’ last 27 games. He last played Jan. 18 against Ottawa.
