All-American Trevor Bauer, the nation’s leader in strikeouts last season, struck out 10 in 7 2/3 innings and picked up the victory on Saturday for UCLA, which improved to 2-0 with a 4-1 win over San Francisco at Jackie Robinson Stadium.

Jeff Gelalich went three for three and Tyler Rahmatullah added two hits and two RBIs for the Bruins.

Bauer walked four and gave up two hits. Freshman Nick Vander Tuig made his UCLA debut in a closer role, throwing a scoreless ninth.

UCLA and San Francisco conclude a three-game series on Sunday, with former Mission Viejo Capistrano Valley pitcher Matt Hiserman scheduled to start for San Francisco against UCLA freshman Adam Plutko, last season’s Southern Section Division 2 player of the year from Glendora.
