Kendry Morales’ rehabilitation from a broken ankle suffered a setback Tuesday when the Angels’ slugger was absent from training camp for a second consecutive day.

Morales, sidelined since May, was sent home early Monday with flu-like symptoms, including a fever of 103 degrees. He was no better Tuesday morning, but the Angels were hoping he might be able to do some light conditioning work in the afternoon.

‘If you miss a week to 10 days, it could be an issue,’ Angels’ Manager Mike Scioscia said. ‘But one or two days shouldn’t be a problem.’

Morales has hit well in batting practice and was able to participate in light fielding drills. But his running has been limited to a treadmill while wearing a harness that takes some of his body weight off his injured ankle. Compounding matters, Morales reported to spring training at least 15 pounds overweight.

Morales finished fifth in the American League MVP voting in 2009 after his first full season in the majors, one in which he hit .306 with 34 home runs and 108 RBIs. In 51 games last season, he batted .290 with 11 homers and 39 RIBs.
