Actor Christian Slater was named grand marshal of Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race in Fontana, and boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard will serve as honorary starter.

Slater will give the command for the 43 drivers to start their engines at the Auto Club 400, while Leonard will wave the green flag at the start/finish line.

Qualifying to set the race’s starting lineup is scheduled Friday; the race, at the two-mile Fontana track 50 miles east of Los Angeles, starts at noon PDT Sunday.
