You can watch the live-stream video of the news conference at UCLA regarding the firing of football coach Rick Neuheisel. [3:16 p.m. update: News conference is over].
Neuheisel coached the Bruins for four seasons and has a 21-28 record with the school. His last game will be Friday against Oregon in the Pac-12 title game.
Neuheisel, a former UCLA quarterback, was greeted with much fanfare when he replaced Karl Dorrell in 2007, but managed to get the Bruins to a bowl game only once in his first three seasons.
Neuheisel said earlier Monday that he was not overly disappointed over being fired.
‘No, we all know what we’re getting into when we get into this,’ he said, referring to the coaching profession. ‘I’m excited for the challenge Friday. If it is going to be my last time at UCLA, I want to make it special.’
Asked what went wrong during his tenure, Neuheisel said, ‘There is plenty of time to think that over. I am thankful for the opportunity. This has always been a place where I wanted to be at and have a chance to bring it back to being a place where everyone could be proud. We have fallen short of that, but there are lots of things I’m proud of from my time here.’
